Lady Laura
Lady Laura (aka Laura M. Walker) is an exiting new addition to the Southern California art scene. She was raised in Central NY and has lived a number of years in the NYC metropolitan area, as well as in Upstate NY (in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains). She attended Pratt Institute, SUNY Potsdam, and Cazenovia College. But if you ask how long Laura has been painting, she’ll say “as long as I can remember.”
In the late 90’s, while attending college, she helped to found a “loosely knit collective” of artists and thinkers from all over the world, called “DREAMING”. As an active member of ”DREAMING”, Lady Laura has also helped to start “CoArtz” a small artist co-op in Ventura, CA. She’s shown and sold artwork all over NYS and has a number of ongoing exhibits in NYC area.
Her work comprises an eclectic mix of materials, ranging from paint on canvas to glassworks to pastels combined with paper and inks and everything in-between. Using multi-layered techniques to express the complexity of the human experience has lent many of the pieces to contain mythological and/or other symbolism. These visual cues represent emotional states present in all of our lives and make every piece a story that unfolds further as the viewer looks upon the psychologically based “human landscapes”. It is not uncommon to see onlookers spending extended periods of time viewing her paintings, waiting for the next image to take form. The hope of the artist is to allow the on-looker to gain an understanding of spiritual growth and the metaphorical messages that appear throughout their everyday experiences.
