Born and raised in Wayzata, MN a small town outside Minneapolis. Tooled around the state by bike and saw the country by greyhound as a teen.  Started school in NYC, continued in London’s East End in a neighborhood made famous by its discovery of a suitcase full of body parts in a canal next to my school, went back to NYC and finished my bachelor’s degree there.  Moved to LA a few years ago by a chance phonecall, bought a car, packed it up and drove out here.  Moved a few times when upstairs neighbors were police raided for burglaries in connection to narcotics trafficking.  Had an honest artist’s studio for two months but now paint in my kitchen at night starting at midnight when the dogs inside are asleep and the traffic outside is quiet, and go til the dawn.

will is one of the most talented young artists i have ever met. his style brashingly disregards any preconceived notion of fine art. his subjects are familiar, and yet his approach and vision set him well above the mediocrity of his Los Angelian contemporaries.

  5. Gina says:

    YAY! I’m excited :)

  6. Nice work – kind of like Phillip Guston meets Larry Rivers. I wouldn’t say William has disregarded any notions of fine art, but is well on his way to developing a solid unique style. I like the use of text – and the work on cardboard is happening. I think a show of cardboard art would be a very strong project to propose to a willing LA gallery. Let me know what you think.

STrange but evolved paintings…. Very interesting pieces to look at and think about….
All those folks (your subjects) obviously have some serious histories,,,, no wonder you want to write. Maybe there’s some subject matter for ya?
